At FAB-U-TECH INDUSTRIES, we believe in transparency regarding the drivers behind per-part pricing. Because we have provided full-service steel processing since 1994, we understand that every project has unique requirements. We utilize a custom-quote model to ensure your estimate reflects real production data rather than averaged assumptions.
Several key factors influence the cost per part for fiber laser cutting:
- Material Type and Thickness: Thicker or higher-strength materials require more laser power and slower feed rates. This increases machine cycle time, consumable usage, and overall per-part expense.
- Part Geometry: Intricate designs with small holes, tight inside radii, or complex internal cutouts require more frequent head repositioning and complex tool paths, which adds to the machine time.
- Batch Size and Nesting Efficiency: Larger production volumes allow us to amortize programming and setup fees across more pieces. Additionally, intelligent nesting maximizes sheet usage to minimize scrap material.
- Tolerances and Finish Requirements: Specifying extremely tight dimensional tolerances or additional secondary processing—such as deburring or grinding—increases labor and inspection time.
- Setup and Programming Fees: Every job requires converting drawings into machine-ready files. While these fees are a larger share of the cost for one-off prototypes, they are significantly reduced for repeat production where we can reuse proven cut files.
- Equipment Selection: We match the method to your material. Our Optiplex 3015 Fiber laser is highly cost-effective for thin to medium-gauge sheet metal due to its high speed and clean edge quality, which often eliminates the need for secondary finishing.
