At our Nisku facility, our heavy plate shearing services utilize large-capacity hydraulic shears designed to accommodate a variety of industrial project scales.
Our equipment handles maximum shear widths as follows:
- Maximum Shear Width: We can perform full-length cuts in a single pass for widths up to 10–14 feet (3–4.3 meters).
- Thickness at Capacity: Our shears are capable of handling material ranging from thin gauges up to 20 feet by 3/4 inch, or up to 1 inch (25.4 mm) in common structural grades (such as A36, 44W, and 50W) for shorter widths.
It is important to note that these parameters are interdependent. As the width of the plate increases, the effective thickness capacity may decrease, particularly with harder or higher-tensile material grades. By utilizing wider beds that allow for full-length cuts in one pass, we reduce the need for repositioning, which minimizes potential errors and maintains dimensional tolerances within ±0.005 to ±0.015 inches.
As a provider of full service steel processing, we ensure that these sheared blanks are prepared with clean, square edges and no heat-affected zones, making them ideal for downstream operations like forming or rolling.
